Lieming Xu holds M.D. and Ph.D. degrees. He is as a Director of Shanghai Hepatological Committee of Chinese Association of the Integration of Traditional and Western Medicine, a former Chief of Division of Cirrhosis at Shuguang Hospital of Shanghai (Shanghai, China), and a former Director of Institute of Liver Diseases at Shanghai University of Traditional Chinese Medicine (Shanghai, China). Xu studied at Shanghai University of Traditional Chinese Medicine for M.B., M.M., M.D., and Ph.D. degrees during 1978–1992. He was a Postdoc Fellow at the Division of Renal and Hypertension at the Colorado University of Health Science Center in Denver, CO, USA, and at the Division of Liver Diseases at Mount Sinai School of Medicine in New York, NY, USA. Xu is working on preventing and treating liver diseases, especially hepatic fibrosis and cirrhosis, with traditional Chinese medicine since 1980. He has got more than 10 grants from the National Natural Science Foundation of China and other organizations and published over 100 papers in China and USA.
