Carlos Capdevila Montes earned his Ph.D. degree in materials science at Complutense University of Madrid, Madrid, Spain, in 1999. He works as a Research Scientist at the Physical Metallurgy Department of the Spanish National Center for Metallurgical Research (CENIM), Madrid, Spain, one of the research institutes of the Spanish National Council for Scientific Research (CSIC). He also served as a Research Associate (from 1998 to 2001) in the Phase Transformation Research Group headed by Prof. Bhadeshia in the Department of Materials Science and Metallurgy of the University of Cambridge, Cambridge, UK. His research topics include phase transformations in steels, characterization of the microstructure and optimization of the mechanical properties of steels and iron-based alloys, thermodynamics and kinetics modeling of isothermal and anisothermal phase transformations in steels, and design of steels for industrial applications with high requirements. Montes has published more than 100 papers, included in the Science Citation Report, and currently supervises Ph.D. and undergraduate students.
