Angela Panoskaltsis-Mortari received her Ph.D. degree from the University of Western Ontario. She was a Postdoctoral Fellow at the Department of Pathology, University of Alabama, and a Postdoctoral Research Associate at the Department of Pediatrics, University of Minnesota. She joined the University of Minnesota faculty in 1995. She holds the position of Associate Professor of pediatrics at the Division of Hematology-Oncology and Blood and Marrow Transplantation. Dr. Panoskaltsis-Mortari is the Director of the Cytokine Reference Laboratory. She has board certification from the American Board of Medical Laboratory Immunology. She is a member of numerous immunology, pulmonary, and hematology professional societies, and the author of nearly 120 articles which have appeared in such publications as the Journal of Experimental Medicine, Journal of Clinical Investigation, Blood, Biology of Blood and Marrow Transplantation, American Journal of Physiology (Lung Cellular and Molecular Physiology), and Journal of Immunology. Dr. Panoskaltsis-Mortari laboratory research focuses upon the study of bone-marrow transplant-related lung injury (idiopathic pneumonia syndrome) and the biology of graft-versus-host disease, both of which are major complications causing morbidity and mortality post-BMT. She is also exploring novel methods of enhancing lung repair after transplant using growth factors and multipotential adult stem cells.
