Ozgur Cogulu was graduated from Faculty of Medicine, Ege University, Izmir, Turkey with a medical degree in 1989. He was granted The Scientific and Technological Research Council of Turkey (TUBITAK) Scientist Trainee Scholarship between 1983 and 1989. He continued his medical education specializing in pediatrics between 1989 and 1993. During this period, he was mentored by professor E. Bühler; studied prenatal and postnatal cytogenetics. In the next years after completing his pediatric education, he was mentored by professor M. Hulten; studied cytogenetics, molecular cytogenetics, and genetic counseling and worked in Birmingham Heartland’s Hospital. From 1997 to 2010, he worked as Pediatric Geneticist in the Pediatric Genetics Unit and at the Department of Medical Genetics at Ege University Hospital. He became a professor of pediatrics in 2010. He was involved in many multicenter studies particularly in the field of leukemia genetics. He was one of the primary investigators in identification of two new genes leading to ocular and limb development and a novel short stature syndrome. He has 76 international and 50 national scientific publications in peer-reviewed journals and had authored more than 10 book chapters. He has been the principal investigator of 17 and assistant investigator of 21 research projects. His current practice involves dysmorphology, cancer genetics, and genetic counseling.
