Robin Emsley is a Professor at the Department of Psychiatry, University of Stellenbosch, Cape Town, South Africa. He obtained his Medical degree at the University of Cape Town, Cape Town, South Africa, in 1974, and his Psychiatry degree with distinctions at the University of Stellenbosch, Stellenbosch, South Africa, in 1981. He was awarded a Doctorate degree in medicine in 1987, for studies on the neuroendocrinology of schizophrenia and alcohol dependence, and obtained the D.S. degree in 2007 for studies in the psychopathology, neurobiology, and psychopharmacology of schizophrenia. He serves in national and international professional and scientific committees and advisory boards and is the recipient of national and international research grants and awards. His main area of interest is the psychopharmacology of schizophrenia. His group has published extensively in this field. He is on the Editorial Boards of several international journals, including Schizophrenia Research, Early Intervention in Psychiatry, Schizophrenia Research and Treatment, and the African Journal of Psychiatry, and he is the Past Editor of the South African Journal of Psychiatry. He has published over 250 scientific publications (articles, letters, chapters, and books).
