Philippos Gourzis

Philippos Gourzis is a recipient of the M.D. degree. He is an Associate Professor of psychiatry and the Head of the Department of Psychiatry at the School of Medicine, the University of Patras, Rio, Greece. He attended the School of Medicine of the University of Ioannina until 1988 and completed his internship in Platanos-Nafpaktos, Greece, in 1989. He completed his residency at the Department of Neurology, the University of Patras, in 1990, and then completed his residency at the Department of Psychiatry, the University of Patras, in 1993. Until 2000 he served as a Private Practitioner. Dr. Gourzis joined the University of Patras, Patras, Greece, in 2000, and from 2000 to 2008 served as a Lecturer at the Department of Psychiatry, from 2008 to 2010 worked as an Assistant Professor at the Department of Psychiatry, and from 2010 up to now has been an Associate Professor at the Department of Psychiatry. He joined the Greek Board of Psychiatry in 1994, and he has been a Doctor of medical sciences at the University of Patras since 1999. Courses he is teaching are introduction to clinical skills and first aids, bioethics, and psychiatry (clinical training). Dr. Gourzis is the author of more than 27 articles and a book reviewer for psychiatric journals and lectures on a broad range of topics in general psychiatry. He received 3 awards for his work. His research areas include schizophrenia, prodromal schizophrenia, depression, psychopharmacology, tardive dystonia, neuropsychiatry, and dementia.
