José Carlos Ferreira Alves

José Carlos Ferreira Alves graduated in chemical engineering at the Rural Federal University of Rio de Janeiro (UFRRJ), Brazil, in 1990 and in 1993 obtained the M.S. degree in organic chemistry at the same institution with the dissertation on “Inversion of the lactonic fusion on eremanthine derivatives and synthesis of micheliolide.” In 2000, he got his Ph.D. degree in chemistry of natural products at the Nucleus of Researches of Natural Products at the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro (NPPN-UFRJ), with the thesis entitled “Formal enantioselective synthesis of (+)-vincamine and derivatives.” He continued his activity at the NPPN-UFRJ and the Institute of Chemistry at the Federal Fluminense University (IQ-UFF) as a Postdoctoral Researcher (2001-2002), developing a project aiming at the syntheses of potentially bioactive 2-pyrrolidinones and pyrrolidines. His scientific interest is focused on the development of methodologies for organic synthesis, with emphasis on the synthesis of potentially bioactive natural products.
