Živile Lukšiene was born in 1954 in Vilinus. She is a Senior Researcher in the Institute of Applied Sciences at Vilnius University. She received a Ph.D. degree in biophysics in 1985 at Moscow University and a Diploma for Habilitation in 2003. Her areas of expertise are b Biophysical methods for food safety and oncotherapy. She has international recognition as Reviewer of international projects, including Optimising Tumoritropic Behaviour of Hypericin (Belgium), and Detection and Antimicrobial Photodynamic Treatment of Bacteria (Hong Kong). She has also worked on such international projects as Innovative Non-thermal Processing Technologies to Improve the Quality and Safety of Meals for the 6th Framework Program, CORDIS. Lukšiene taught as invited lecturer on several occasions spanning the years 1994 to 2011 and has published 155 papers.
