Mohamed Afify received his B.S., M.S., and Ph.D. degrees from the Cairo University in 1987, 1992, and 1995, respectively, all in electrical engineering. After graduating from the Cairo University, he did a 2-year Postdoc in INRIA Lorraine, Nancy, France. He is currently the Head of Voice and Multimedia Services, Orange Lab, Cairo, Egypt. Before joining Orange, he worked for the Human Language Technology Group of IBM Thoms J. Watson Research Center, the Speech Department of BBN Technologies, and the Dialogue Systems Research Department of Bell Labs. Afify also taught for several years at the Cairo University where he was an Associate Professor until 2004. His research interests are mainly in statistical methods in speech and language processing. Afify published extensively in these areas and also contributed to many industrial systems.
