Carmelo E. Fiore
Carmelo E. Fiore was born in Roana (VI), Italy. He graduated in medicine and surgery, University of Catania, in 1969. He helds many positions such as Full Professor of internal medicine at the University of Catania, a Director of the Department of Internal Medicine, the Director of the Service of Prevention, Diagnosis, Therapy of the Osteoporosis and the other Metabolic Diseases of bone, Investigator with the Laboratoire de Radioimmunologie, University of Liège (Belgium) in years 1978 and 1979, and Investigator for the National Plans of Search “Biology and pathology of the cell-matrix interactions physiopathology of the metabolic and neoplastic bone diseases,” and “Genetic epidemiology analysis of the factors of risk for osteoporotic fracture.” He is a Member of the ECTS, IBMS, and ASBMR. Fiore serves as a Member of the National Boards of the Italian Society of Mineral Metabolism (1982–1985 and 1997–2000), Italian League against Osteoporosis (since 1988), Italian Society of Osteoporosis (1991–1994), and Italian Society of Osteoporosis and Metabolic Bone Diseases (2007–2011). He authored more than 300 papers on internal medicine and bone metabolism, published in international journals like Lancet; CTI; Bone and Mineral; Clinical Endocrinol; Clinical Rheumatol; J.Bone and Min.
