Il-Moo Chang obtained his B.S degree from College of Pharmacy, Seoul National University, Republic of Korea in 1966. He received the M.S. degree in pharmacy from Graduate School of Seoul National University and the Ph.D. degree in biophysical sciences from the Graduate School of University of Houston, Tex, USA in 1969 and 1972, respectively. From 1972 till 1974, he worked as a Research Associate with Professor John Bear at the Department of Chemistry, University of Houston. Moreover, he worked as a Senior Researcher at Cancer Chemotherapy Team, Cancer Hospital, Korea Atomic Research Institute during the period from 1974 till 1976. He also worked at Natural Products Research Institute, College of Pharmacy, Seoul National University from 1976 till 2009 and was the Director of the institute from 1992 till 1998. Dr. Chang has held a lot of positions such as the President of the Asian Society of Toxicology (1997–2000), the Director of the WHO Collaboration Center for Traditional Medicines Research, Seoul National University (2000–2008), and a Panel Member at the Advisory Group, WHO's Traditional Medicine Strategy (2007–2011). Furthermore, he is currently an Honorary Professor at College of Medicine, Yanbian University, China and a University Chair Professor at College of Traditional Oriental Medicine, Kyung Hee University, Seoul, Republic of Korea. Finally, Dr. Chang holds the title of an emeritus professor.
