François G. Schmitt
François G. Schmitt received an Engineering degree from the Ecole Nationale Supérieure de Techniques Avancées (ENSTA), Paris, France, in 1988, and the Ph.D. degree in turbulence from the University of Paris 6 in 1993. He has received the 2001 Habilitation degree to supervise research in physics, speciality turbulence, from the same university in 2001. Since 2002, he is a Researcher at the French National Center for Scientific Research (CNRS). He is now CNRS Research Professor, and Director of the CNRS Wimereux Laboratory of Oceanograph and Geosciences. He works on turbulence and nonlinear variability in geophysics and oceanographic turbulence. His main interests include intermittency studies and multifractal cascade models, turbulence modelling, physics-biology couplings in aquatic ecosystems, times series analysis, animal behavior, and plankton distribution and dynamics.
