Martha Zequera Diaz

Martha Zequera Diaz is the Director of the Bioengineering Research Group at the Pontificia Universidad Javeriana, Bogotá, Colombia. She is a World-Renowned Researcher in biomechanics, lower limb orthoses, and orthoses management of the diabetic foot, and her team has designed and constructed special devices for measuring various biomechanic parameters related to diabetic foot soft-tissue properties. She received the B.S. degree (honors) from the Pontificia Universidad Javeriana in 1987 and the M.S. degree from the Bioengineering Unit at Dundee University, UK, in 1991. In 2003, she was awarded a Ph.D. degree from the Bioengineering Unit at the University of Strathclyde, UK, where she is now a Visiting Professor. Professor Diaz has been working as a Researcher at the Electronics Department at the Pontificia Universidad Javeriana from 1993 to 2010 and has been an Academic Member of the Medical School at Sabana University, Bogotá, from 2004 to 2009. She has been the Managing Director of Ergosalud LTDA since 1998. Moreover, she has published over 30 technical papers and one book and is a Senior Member and Latin American Representative of the Engineering in Medicine and Biology Society (IEEE-EMBS) and the Secretary of the Latin American Regional Council on Biomedical Engineering (CORAL). She has acted as a Consultant for Nestlé, Texaco, Legis S.A., Agafono, and Mobil among others. Her current research interests include orthopedics, biomechanics, biomechanical assessment of plantar foot tissue in the diabetic foot, foot orthoses, diabetes technology, expert systems, healthcare information systems, and medical ultrasound.
