Jiying Zhao received his B.E. and M.E. degrees in computer engineering and his Ph.D. degree in electrical engineering from North China Electric Power University (NCEPU), Beijing, China, in 1983, 1988, and 1992, respectively. Moreover, he has got his second Ph.D. degree in computer engineering from Keio University, Tokyo, Japan, in 1998. Zhao worked for NCEPU as an Assistant Lecturer, Lecturer, and Associate Professor from 1983 to 1994. He also served as an Instructor and Associate Professor at the Department of Computing Science at the University College of the Cariboo (which is known now as Thompson Rivers University), BC, Canada, between 1998 and 2001. In addition, Zhao joined the School of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science (EECS) at the University of Ottawa in 2001 and became an Associate Professor in 2005 and then a Professor in 2009. His current research interests are on image/video processing and multimedia communications. He is a Member of Professional Engineers Ontario and a Member of IEEE, IEICE, and ACM.
