Branca Silva was born in Vila Nova de Gaia, Portugal, in 1974. She received the Food Engineering degree from the Universidade Católica Portuguesa (Porto, Portugal), in 1997, and the Quality Control of Water and Food M.S. degree and Nutrition and Food Chemistry Ph.D. degree from the Universidade do Porto (Porto, Portugal), in 2000 and 2005, respectively. In 2008, she received the professional degree of Engineer Specialist in food engineering from the Ordem dos Engenheiros (Portugal). Between 1999 and 2000, Dr. Silva served as an Assistant at the Universidade Católica Portuguesa (Porto, Portugal). From 2002 to 2005, she was an Assistant at the Universidade Fernando Pessoa (Porto, Portugal). From 2005 to 2011, she was an Assistant Professor of the same university and Researcher at the REQUIMTE (Rede de Química e Tecnologia), a national laboratory that, in the north region of Portugal, is represented by CEQUP (Centro de Química da Universidade do Porto). Since October 2011, she works at the Universidade da Beira Interior as an Associate Professor. Presently, she is author/coauthor of about 50 scientific papers, and her research interests are oriented to the phytomedicine (metabolomics study and biological screening of plants as sources of new bioactive compounds). Since 2008, Silva is Member of the expert databases of the European Food Safety Authority (Parma, Italy) and of the Ordem dos Engenheiros (Portugal). She was a Marquis Who's Who in the World biographee (26th and 27th editions, 2009 and 2010, resp.).
