Renata Strumia was born in Ravenna, Italy. She received a medical degree from the University of Bologna, Bologna, Italy in 1974 (magna cum laude). She interned at St. Anna University Hospital, University of Ferrara, Ferrara, Italy, and was awarded the Certificate of Specialist in Dermatology and Venereology in 1974 and the Certificate of Specialist in Legal Medicine in 1979. She practiced the speciality of dermatology and venereology at the Unit of Dermatology at the St. Anna University Hospital, Ferrara, Italy, from 1977 until 2009, and she was a Professor of dermatology for residents at the University of Ferrara until 2009. She is now a Private Dermatologist in Ferrara and Ravenna. Dr. Strumia lectured widely in Italy and abroad at medical meetings, congresses, courses, and symposia, including EADV meetings and AAD conventions. She is author of over 150 original articles. She coauthored Handbook of Dermatology published in 1990 by La Nuova Italia Scientifica, Rome, Italy. She was the author of the monograph "The Pathology in Diabetic Skin," in 1992. Strumia edited the book Eating Disorders in Males from Nova Publisher, New York, NY, USA, 2008. Her most referenced articles pertain to the cutaneous manifestations of kidney transplant recipients, skin oncology, dermatoscopy, and skin signs in eating disorders. She is a Reviewer for the British Journal of Dermatology, Journal of the European Academy of Dermatology, and Nephron. Further, Strumia is a Member of the European Academy of Dermatology and Venereology (EADV) and the American Academy of Dermatology (AAD).
