David Goldstein Costa

David Goldstein Costa was born in Manaus, Brazil, in 1945. He received the Electrical Engineering degree from Universidade Federal de Pernambuco, Recife, Brazil in 1967 and the Ph.D. degree in mathematics from Brown University, Providence, RI, USA in 1973. Before moving to the United States in 1992, he was a Professor at the Universidade de Brasília, Brasilia, Brazil. He was a Member of the Advisory Committee of the National Research Council of Brazil (CNPq) as well as Treasurer and Vice President of the Brazilian Mathematical Society (SBM). During his permanence in Brazil, he was a visiting scholar at various institutions in the United States, Italy, Portugal, Spain, China, and Australia. Since 1993, he has been a Professor at University of Nevada, Las Vegas, Nev, USA. His main interest and expertise is in partial differential equations, particularly through the use of variational and topological methods.
