Pilar Soengas was born in Vigo, Spain, in 1972. She received the biology degree from the University of Santiago de Compostela, Spain, in 1996. She received the Ph.D. degree from the University of Vigo in 2001 (Summa Cum Laude). She did a postdoctoral stay at Horticulture Research International (WHRI) from 2001 to 2003, afterwards she has been working at Misión Biológica de Galicia (since 2003 until 2006) and at the University of Coruña (since 2006 until 2009), until she got a permanent position at Misión Biológica de Galicia, as a Tenured Scientist. She is mainly interested in the study of phytogenetic resources, breeding of yield and resistance to pest and diseases of brassicas, and also in the study of their antioxidant properties.
