Philip A. Hughes
0000-0002-0691-3041Philip A. Hughes was born in London, England in 1951. He received his B.S. degree in physics from the University of London, London, England in 1973 and his M.S. degree in astronomy from the University of Sussex, Brighton, UK in 1974 and his Ph.D. degree in astronomy from the University of Sussex in 1981. Since 1983, Hughes has been a Research Scientist in the Astronomy Department of the University of Michigan and is currently a Research Scientist Emeritus and a Lecturer there. Furthermore, his research interests include compact relativistic sources and pulsar wind nebulae, studied through relativistic computational fluid dynamics and the transfer of polarized radiation in diffuse plasmas. Hughes is a Member of the RAS, AAS, and IAU Commission 40.
