Luming Shen received his B.S. and M.A. degrees in structural engineering from Tongji University in China, and his Ph.D. degree in civil engineering from the University of Missouri-Columbia, USA, in 2004. He worked as a Structural Engineer in Shanghai Research Institute of Building Sciences, China, from April 1997 to August 1999. Prior to joining Monash University in Australia as a Lecturer in January 2006, he served as a Postdoctoral Fellow at the University of Missouri-Columbia. He joined the School of Civil Engineering at University of Sydney, Australia, as a Senior Lecturer in July 2008. His research interests mainly focus on the development of theoretical models and multiscale simulation procedures for the applications in nanomechanics and materials, impact-resistant design, advanced structural materials, and light metals. He has strong background in characterization, modeling and simulation of material and structural failure under extreme loading conditions as well as atomistic simulations and mesh-free particle method as evidenced by more than 50 refereed publications. He works as a Certified Materials Professional (CMP), Australia, and he is also a Member of the Scientific Committee of the Third International Conference for Heterogeneous Materials Mechanics (ICHMM) to be held in Shanghai China in 2011. He has been serving as a Reviewer for several international journals such as International Journal of Solids and Structures, AIAA Journal, Materials Science and Engineering A, Computational Materials Science, International Journal for Multiscale Computational Engineering, and Advances in Structural Engineering.
