Michele Migliore Ricerche was born in Palermo, Italy, in 1957. He received the Physics D. Phil. degree from the University of Palermo, Palermo, Italy, in 1980. Since 1983, Ricerche has been a Research Scientist at the Institute of Biophysics of the Italian National Research Council. Early on, he has worked on the statistical mechanics of water-biomolecule interactions using Monte Carlo and molecular dynamics computer simulations and this, in 1992, motivated him to become interested in realistic modeling of nerve cells and has used this approach to analyze the basic mechanisms underlying synaptic integration processes, the induction of synaptic plasticity, and the roles of different ionic channels and their modulation in neuronal excitability and firing behaviors.
