Harald Renz received his M.D. degree from the University of Marburg in 1986 and did a postdoctoral fellowship at the Institute of Immunology, University of Marburg, from 1986 to 1988. He received Venia Legendi in laboratory medicine and immunopathology (Habilitation) and a board certification in laboratory medicine, clinical chemistry, and allergy in 1994. From 1988 to 1989, he was a resident at Children’s Hospital, University of Marburg. He was a Research Associate from 1989 to 1991, an Instructor from 1991 to 1992, and an Assistant Professor from 1992 to 1993 at the Department of Pediatrics, National Jewish Center for Immunology and Respiratory Medicine. From 1993 to 1999, he was an attending physician at the Institute of Laboratory Medicine and Pathobiochemistry, Charité Hospital, Humboldt-Universität Berlin and the Head of the laboratories of the Department of Pediatric Immunology. Since 1999, he has been a Professor and the Chairman at the Department of Clinical Chemistry and Molecular Diagnostics, Central Laboratory, Hospital of the Philipps-Universität Marburg. Moreover, he is the Director of the Biomedical Research Center (BMFZ) since 2003, the Medical Director of the Medical Care Center (MVZ) at the Clinics of the Philipps-Universität Marburg since 2005, the Speaker of the Sonderforschungsbereich/Transregio 22 Allergische Immunantworten der Lunge since 2005, and the General Secretary of the German Society of Allergy and Clinical Immunology (DGAKI) since 2008.
