Lorenzo Peruzzi was born in Empoli, Florence, Italy, in December 1975. Peruzzi graduated in natural sciences in 2000 at the University of Pisa, Pisa, Italy. He received his Ph.D. degree in botany in 2004 from the University of Calabria, Cosenza, Italy. Currently, he serves as Researcher in systematic botany and Lecturer in plant evolution and diversity at the Department of Biology, University of Pisa. His research interests include plant systematics, phylogeny and taxonomy, karyology and reproductive biology, mainly on Asparagales and Liliales bulbous geophytes, but also carnivorous plants (Pinguicula) and other taxonomically critical Mediterranean groups. The societies and scientific committees’ membership include Italian Botanical Society; Italian Society of Biogeography; Organization for the Phyto-Taxonomic Investigation of the Mediterranean Area (OPTIMA); International Association for Plant Taxonomy; member of the editorial board of Informatore Botanico Italiano, Modern Phytomorphology, Journal of Botany, Caryologia; guest editor for Plant Biosystems; subject editor for PhytoKeys, Comparative Cytogenetics, and Phytotaxa; editor of the online database Chrobase.it –chromosome numbers for the Italian flora (www.biologia.unipi.it/chrobase).
