Dr. Ming Xue is the Weathernews Chair Professor at the School of Meteorology and Director of the Center for Analysis and Prediction of Storms, University of Oklahoma, USA. He obtained his B.S. degree in Atmospheric Sciences from Nanjing University, China in 1984 and his Ph.D. degree in Meteorology from Reading University, England in 1989. Dr. Xue’s research interests include the development of advanced numerical techniques, and modeling and data assimilation systems, the simulation, prediction, dynamics, ensemble forecasting, and predictability of mesoscale and convective scale weather systems, tornado dynamics, advanced data assimilation and retrieval techniques for radar observations, hurricane modeling, dynamics, and prediction. Dr. Xue is the main developer of the Advanced Regional Prediction System (ARPS), a general-purpose community mesoscale/convective scale atmospheric modeling system suitable for both research and operational weather forecasting. He also led the development of the ensemble Kalman filter data assimilation system for the ARPS. He has published over 100 referred papers in leading scientific journals.
