Yasser Gowayed acts as a Professor of Polymer and Fiber Engineering at the Auburn University, USA. He obtained his Ph.D. degree from the North Carolina State University, USA, and his M.S. degree from the American University in Cairo. For the past 20 years, he conducted research and taught classes in the areas of design, manufacture, and testing of composite materials and flexible structures. The major component of his research is focused on developing theories for the understanding the mechanical and thermal behavior of fibrous composite materials for polymer and ceramic matrix composites. His research was, and continues to be, funded by a large group of government agencies and companies such as NASA Glenn, NASA Dryden, NSF, Air Force Research Labs, DoC, DoD, DoE, DoT, DHS, Pratt & Whitney, GE, and Rolls-Royce, Goodrich. He documented his research efforts in many refereed publications, presentations, and book chapters. He also compiled some of his research work into the computer algorithm Graphical Integrated Numerical Analysis pcGINA which is currently used by many aerospace companies and government agencies to design polymer and ceramic matrix composites.
