Edith M. Janssen was born in Geldrop, The Netherlands, in 1971. She received the M.S. degree in biology in 1995 from the Faculty of Biology and the Ph.D. degree in 1999 from the Faculty of Pharmacy and the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, both at the Utrecht University, Utrecht, The Netherlands. From 2000 to 2007 she worked as a Postdoctoral Fellow and independent Research Scientist at the La Jolla Institute for Allergy and Immunology, La Jolla, Calif, USA. In 2008 she was appointed at the Cincinnati Children’s Hospital Research Foundation (Cincinnati, Ohio, USA) as Associate Professor at the Division of Molecular Immunology. Janssen’s research focuses on the molecular and cellular mechanisms that balance the pro- and anti-inflammatory immune responses to self after death, with emphasis on roles of innate sensing, dendritic cells, T-cell priming and memory, antitumor responses, and autoimmunity.
