Umberto Maggi was born in Milan, Italy (1955). In 1982, he received a degree in medicine; in 1987, a specialty degree in general surgery; in 1990, a specialty degree in microsurgery and experimental surgery; in 1995, a specialty degree in thoracic surgery; in 2002, a Ph.D. degree in experimental and organ transplantation surgery, at the University of Milan, Italy. His major interests of clinical research are liver transplantation, primary liver cancers and liver transplantation, immunosuppression and liver transplantation, primary and metastatic liver cancers, thermal ablation of hepatic neoplasm, liver perfusion and preservation, and liver transplantation with split in situ liver grafts. From 2002 to 2004, he was part of the Editorial Board of the Journal Liver Transplantation. His publications on indexed journals equal 42 (IF 60,4); chapters of medical text-books: 6; abstracts and publications for international congresses and nonindexed journal: 146; abstracts and publications for Italian congresses and nonindexed Italian journals: 81.
