Christos Kontoyannis was born in Athens, Greece. He received his B.S. degree (Ptychion in Greek) in chemistry from the University of Patras, Greece and the M.S. and Ph.D. degrees from the Chemistry Department of Georgetown University (DC, USA). For the last 20 years, he was a faculty member of Department of Pharmacy, University of Patras, and since 2006, the Director of the Laboratory of Pharmaceutical Analysis. He has published more than 50 peer-reviewed papers in international journals and has more than 30 publications in conference proceedings. He has authored or coauthored 2 chapters in books, 1 patent, 3 books/notes for the students while was coeditor of five conference proceedings and member of organizing committee or chairman of 10 conferences, seven of which were international. His publications have received more than 600 citations (self-citations are excluded). He has participated in more than 12 international and national competitive EU, NATO, and Greek research programs either as scientific officer or coordinator. He serves as reviewer of 16 international journals and of research proposals. He consults pharmaceutical companies for the development of new formulations. He was elected Chairman of the department (two terms), Member of University’s Research Committee (two terms), and was appointed as a Member of University’s Bioethics Committee. Kontoyannis is currently serving as the Vice-Chairman of the department.
