Suren Chen has been an assistant professor in the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering at Colorado State University (CSU) since 2006. His research has been primarily focused on transportation infrastructure (e.g. bridges) safety and sustainability, highway traffic safety risk prediction and mitigation, transportation system planning, optimization and hazard mitigation. He has published about 70 technical papers, half of which are referred journal papers since 2001. He was awarded 2009 ASCE Collingwood Prize and is currently the associate editor of ASCE Journal of Bridge Engineering. Dr. Chen has been a licensed professional civil engineer since 2004 and is an active member of four technical committees within ASCE, and serves as the Transportation Research Board (TRB) appointed university representative for CSU. Dr. Chen received his PhD degree from Louisiana State University in 2004. After graduation, he worked as a Civil Engineer at a national consulting firm for two years before joining CSU.
