Dan Wilhelmsson, Ph.D., serves as a Scientific Coordinator at the Swedish Secretariat for Environmental Earth System Sciences, dealing with a broader set of global environmental change issues. He is a Marine Ecologist by training and has been working on issues like sustainable use (e.g., fisheries and alternative livelihoods for fisher families), conservation, and monitoring of marine and coastal natural resources, including policy advice. Since 2003, he has been working on the environmental risks and opportunities of offshore renewable energy, including both field surveys and scientific reviews. He served also until recently as a Scientific Coordinator at IUCN Global Marine Program, focusing primarily on offshore renewable energy. Earlier, he served as a Regional Coordinator for the Coastal Ocean Research and Development Program in South Asia and as an Assistant Coordinator for the intergovernmental organization ICRI for many years.
