Takeshi Matsumura

Takeshi Matsumura was born in Kumamoto, Japan, in 1966. He received the M.D. degree and the Ph.D. degree from the Kumamoto University, Kumamoto, Japan, in 1993 and 1999, respectively. From 1999 to 2001, Matsumura was a Research Associate at the Division of Endocrinology (Dr. Michael Brownlee’s Lab), Albert Einstein College of Medicine, NY, USA. From 2001 to 2008, Matsumura was a Senior Resident at the Department of Metabolic Medicine, Faculty of Life Sciences, Kumamoto University, Kumamoto, Japan. Since 2009, he has been an Assistant Professor. He is mainly interested in the mechanism of the progression of atherosclerosis, and a development of novel therapeutic approach for atherosclerosis. In 2000, he was a recipient of the Young Investigate Award of Japan Atherosclerosis Society. In 2008, he was a recipient of the Kumamoto Medical Award. In 2009, he was a recipient of the Kyushu NOVO Award. Matsumura is a Councilor of Japan Atherosclerosis Society, Japanese Vascular Biology and Medicine Organization, and Japan Constitutional Medicine.
