Ludvík Kunz was born on May 21, 1947. He gained a B.S. degree in solid-state physics from the Faculty of Science, Masaryk University, Brno, Czech Republic, in 1971. He received a Ph.D. degree from the Academy of Sciences of the Czech Republic, in 1977. He served as a Professor of materials engineering at Žilina University, Slovakia, in 2004. He currently works as the Head of the Department of Mechanical Properties, Institute of Physics of Materials, Academy of Sciences of the Czech Republic. His research activity is among investigation of relations between microstructure and mechanical properties of materials. His specialization is in basic mechanisms of fatigue, creep, and their interaction: fatigue crack propagation, cyclic plastic response, strain localization in engineering and model materials, and influence of small notches. He author and/or coauthored about 300 specialized publications, from which about 85 can be found in the WOS database. He has 250 expertise or reports for industry. The number of citations (without self-citations) according to the Web of Knowledge is about 650, average citation per item 8.96, h-index= 15.
