Evelin Tiralongo is a German trained and registered Pharmacist with an honors degree in pharmaceutical biology (1995, Greifswald University, Germany) and a Ph.D. degree in biochemistry (2003, Universities in Kiel and Bremen, Germany). Dr. Tiralongo gained extensive practical experience in complementary and alternative medicine (CAM) in German pharmacy practice and has recently completed her Australian registration as a Pharmacist. Since 2004 Dr. Tiralongo is employed as a Senior Lecturer at the School of Pharmacy at Griffith University and as a Researcher within the Griffith Health Institute. Dr. Tiralongo’s expertise is focused on the area of CAM and natural products, and her research spans from laboratory to practice based and clinical projects. She has coauthored a patent and published 8 book chapters, as well as more than 35 peer-reviewed articles in high-quality, international peer-reviewed journals. She has given numerous invited presentations, served on the scientific committee of ICMAN5, and received two research awards. As a Chief Investigator she has received more than $1.3 million in internal and external research funding from sources such as the National Institute of Complementary Medicine in Australia, the Pharmacy Guild of Australia, foundations, and the nutraceutical industry. Dr. Tiralongo integrated CAM education into the pharmacy curricula at Griffith University, completed a Graduate Certificate in Higher Education (2007, Griffith University, Australia), and received two teaching awards. Dr. Tiralongo is a Member of the Australian National Health and Medical Research Council Homeopathy Advisory Committee and the Advisory Committee for the Australian Research Council CAM Quality Use of Medicines project. She is furthermore a Member of the Society for Medicinal Plant and Natural Product Research.
