Roberto Contestabile serves as an Associate Professor of biochemistry at the Sapienza University of Rome, Rome, Italy. In 1992 he graduated from biological sciences and in 1997 received his Ph.D. degree in biochemistry from the School of Molecular and Medical Biosciences of the University of Wales, Cardiff, UK. In 2000 he became a permanent Researcher at Sapienza University of Rome. His main research interests concern the structure, catalytic mechanism, catalytic promiscuity, evolution, and inhibition of pyridoxal 5’-phosphate-dependent enzymes. Recently, his research activity has also focused on the salvage pathway of pyridoxal 5’-phosphate in Escherichia coli and humans.
