Xin-yuan Guan is working at the Department of Clinical Oncology, University of Hong Kong, as a Professor. He received his Ph.D. degree at the University of Arizona, Ariz, USA, in 1993. After postdoctoral training at the University of Michigan, he was recruited by the National Human Genome Research Institute, National Institutes of Health as a Senior Staff Fellow (1993–1999). He then joined the University of Hong Kong in 1999. His main research interests are to apply molecular cytogenetic technologies, such as chromosome microdissection, comparative genomic hybridization (CGH), and fluorescence in situ hybridization (FISH), in the identification of frequent chromosomal changes in solid tumors; to identify and characterize novel oncogenes and tumor suppressor genes in liver, esophageal, and ovarian cancers; to identify and characterize cancer stem cells in hepatocellular carcinoma. He has published more than 130 peer-reviewed research articles in international journals.
