Eugenio Maiorano serves as Professor of pathology at the University of Bari, Bari, Italy, Chief of the Head and Neck Pathology Unit, and Supervisor of the Section of Immunohistochemistry at the Department of Pathological Anatomy of the same University. He specialized in medicine at the University of Bari School of Medicine in 1983 (summa cum laude) and was appointed “Best Student” (1980) and “Best Graduate” (1984) at the University of Bari School of Medicine. His postdoctoral training included the Post-Graduate Schools of Pathological Anatomy and of Haematology, and he specialized in pathology (1987, Summa cum Laude) and haematology (1995, summa cum laude) at the University of Bari. He completed a postdoctoral fellowship in immunopathology at the Department of Pathology, University of Southern California, Los Angeles, CA, USA (1986) and one in immunoelectron microscopy at the Second Department of Pathology of the University of Milan, Milan, Italy (1987-1988). Also, he obtained his Master in senology at the University of Milan School of Medicine and European Institute of Oncology on December 2003. He was appointed as Staff Pathologist at the “Di Venere” Hospital in Bari, Italy, and subsequently Assistant Professor (1990–1998), Associate Professor (1998–2006), and Professor of pathology (from 2006) at the Department of Pathology of the University of Bari. His research interests cover several fields of surgical pathology with a special interest in head and neck, breast and female genital tract pathology. Maiorano has lectured worldwide, mainly on head and neck pathology, breast pathology and on the prognostic predictive role of growth factors and receptors. He has authored 172 original research papers, 85 abstracts published in scientific journals and 52 in congress proceedings, 9 chapters in books, and 7 reviews. He is also a Member of the Editorial Board of the international journals Oral Oncology, Oral Diseases, and International Journal of Primary Health Care.
