Toshiyuki Nakayama was born in Karatsu (Japan) in 1965. He graduated from Nagasaki University School of Medicine, Nagasaki, Japan, received his M.D. degree in 1992, and finished the postgraduate course of Nagasaki University School of Medicine in 1996. He obtained a Ph.D. degree in 1996 from the university. After complete training in internal medicine and gastroenterology, he has been working in the field of diagnostic pathology and cellular and molecular research in gastrointestinal tract. He worked as a Postdoc Associate at the Division of Molecular and Cellular Physiology, Department of Endocrinology, University of Cincinnati, Ohio, USA from 1997 until 1999. And he worked as a Lecturer or Assistant Professor at Nagasaki University School of Medicine in 1996. He serves currently as an Associate Professor at the Department of Pathology, Nagasaki University Graduate School of Biomedical Sciences, Nagasaki, Japan. He serves as a Member of American Gastroenterological Association (AGA), European Society of Digestive Oncology (ESDO), and Japan Pathological Association. He is on the editorial board of the world journal of Gastrointestinal Oncology and ISRN Gastroenterology. His specialty is molecular pathophysiology and oncology in gastrointestinal tract.
