Prabir Daripa

Prabir Daripa received his undergraduate degree from the Indian Institue of Technology, Kharagpu, India. His Masters and Ph.D. degrees are from Brown University, Providence, RI, USA. His postdoctoral experience during the years 1985–1987 is from Courant Institute, New York University. He has done research in a wide variety of fluid mechanics, applied mathematics, and PDEs, numerical analysis relevant for the developemnt of fast algorithms and numerical methods, high performance scientific computing, engineering sciences, and software development. He has made contributions in many fields including the following: aerodynamic design, enhanced oil recovery, linear and nonlinear hydrodynamic stability, Hele-Shaw and Rayleigh-Taylor Instability, turbulent combustion, biofluid dynamics, computation of free surface flows, Stokes flows, nonlinear wave propagation, solitons, conservation laws, front-tracking, inverse problems, numerical solution of illposed problems, numerical quasiconformal mappings, development of fast sequential and parallel algorithms for solving nonlinear PDES, boundary integral methods, finite difference, finite element and spectral methods, and software development for applications. He is on the Editorial Boards of several journals including Advances in Numerical Analysis, The Open Applied Mathematics Journal, Advances in Mathematical Physics, International Journal of Mechanics and Solids, and Advanced Studies in Theoretical Physics.
