User Biography : Dr Javier Hernando Javier Hernando was born in Zaragoza, Spain, in 1965. He received the M.S. and Ph.D. degrees in telecommunication engineering from the Universitat Politecnica de Catalunya (UPC), Barcelona, Spain, in 1988 and 1993, respectively. He received the 1993 Extraordinary Ph.D. Award of UPC. Since 1988, he is with the Department of Signal Theory and Communications, UPC, where he is presently a Professor. He launched the European Master of Research on Information and Communication Technologies (MERIT) in the framework of the Erasmus Mundus Master Course programme. Hernando is also member of the Research Center for Language and Speech (TALP). He was a Visiting Researcher at the Panasonic Speech Technology Laboratory, Santa Barbara, CA, during the academic year 2002–2003. His research interests include robust speech analysis and recognition, speaker verification and localization, biometrics, oral dialogue, and multimodal interfaces. He is the author or coauthor of about 180 publications in book chapters, review articles, and conference papers on these topics. He has led the UPC Speech Processing team in several European, Spanish, and Catalan research projects. He has served as a technical program committee member of more than 40 scientific conferences and as a Reviewer in the most prestigious journals in the area. He is Cotechnical Chair of EUSIPCO 2011.
