Dr. Yuri A. Barnakov graduated from Saint Petersburg State Technical University (Saint Petersburg, Russia) with a Master of Science degree in Physical Chemistry in 1989. In 1995 he received a Ph.D. degree in Inorganic Chemistry from the Saint Petersburg State University & Ioffe Physico-Technical Institute of Russian Academy of Sciences (Saint Petersburg, Russia). In 1995-1996, he was awarded JSPS Postdoctoral Fellowship at the Institute for Materials Research, Tohoku University (Sendai, Japan). Between 1996 and 1998, Dr. Barnakov was worked as Research scientist at Baikal Institute for Nature Management, Siberian branch of Russian Academy of Sciences (Ulan-Ude, Russia). From 1998 to 2002, Dr. Barnakov worked as lecturer, visiting professor at the Center for Interdisciplinary Research, Tohoku University (Sendai, Japan). In 2002 – 2005 he was as Postdoctoral Research Associate at Advanced Materials Research Institute, University of New Orleans (New Orleans, LA). In 2005 Dr. Barnakov has joined Norfolk State University as a Research Associate Professor at the Center for Materials Research. Dr. Barnakov is author and co-author of one book chapter, over 50 papers in peer reviewed journals, over 50 publications in proceedings of professional societies and conference technical digests (some of them invited). Dr. Barnakov is a member of SPIE, MRS and ACS. He has served as a chair of several conferences. He regularly reviews papers for many professional journals. Research interests of Dr. Barnakov include Nanomaterials, Metamaterials, Near Field -Optics, Surface and Interfacial Phenomena.
