Koji Akeda was born in Tsu, Japan, in 1970. He received the M.D. degree from the Jikei University School of Medicine in 1997 and the Ph.D. degree from Mie University Graduate School of Medicine in 2006. In 2003, he became a Spine Research Instructor at the Rush Medical College at Rush University Medical Center. From 2003 to 2005, he served as a Senior Research Associate of the Rush Medical College at Rush University Medical Center. Presently, he works as a Lecturer of orthopeadic surgery at Mie University Graduate School of Medicine. He is mainly interested in spine surgery and intervertebral disc biology. He is or has been a Member for the Japanese Orthopedic Association (1998), the Japanese Society for Spine Surgery and Related Research (2004), and the Orthopedic Research Society (2007).
