Guenter Janetschek

Gunter Janetschek performed most of his urologic training at the University of Innsbruck, Austria. During this time, he also spent one year of training at the University of Mainz, Germany. Following this, he was Vice Chairman at the Department of Urology at the University of Innsbruck for more than 10 years. Due to this position, he was always confronted with all kinds of surgery including oncology, reconstruction, pediatric urology, but also endourology. This was the basis to start early in 1992 with laparoscopy. In 1993, he became Professor of Urology and in 2000 joined Professor Marberger at the University of Vienna for half a year to introduce laparoscopy at his department. Dr. Janetschek is currently Head of the Department of Urology at the Elisabethinen Hospital in Linz, Austria. In the last decade, his focus of interest has become laparoscopy. The recent work is focused on laparoscopic sentinel node dissection for prostate cancer and laparoscopic partial nephrectomy for renal cell cancer. All this is reflected by many publications. He is an author or coauthor of about 150 peer-reviewd publications, and has in addition published many book chapters and two books. He has served as a member of various editorial boards including the Journal of Endourology, Urologia Internationalis, and Der Urologe. Since 2005, he is a Member of the Scientific Office of the European Association of Urology. Dr. Janetschek has been involved with several training activities for European Society for Urotechnology (ESUT) and the IRCAD in Strasbourg, France. He is a Member of the Fellowship Committee of the American Society of Endourology, and the Elisabethinen Hospital offers the fellowship program of this society. During 2003–2005, Dr. Janetschek was President of the Austrian Urological Association. Since 2006, he is Honorary Member of the Hungarian Urological Association.
