Rafael J. Villanueva was graduated in mathematics in 1988 and obtained his Ph.D. degree in applied mathematics in 1992. At this moment, he works as a Researcher in the Instituto Universitario de Matemática Multidisciplinar at the Universitat Politècnica de Valéncia, de Valéncia, Spain. His main area of interest is mathematical modeling and the uncertainty quantification, focusing especial attention in the transmission and spread of infectious diseases. Also, he is interested in the application of the underlying ideas in epidemiology to the spread and transmission of social habits, behavior, and ideas. Villanueva also teaches mathematical models for business administration in the Faculty of Business Administration and Management at the Universitat Politècnica de Valéncia.
