Sergio T. Ferreira
Sergio T. Ferreira received his Ph.D. degree in protein biophysics from the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro, RJ, Brazil and obtained postdoctoral training at the Physics Department of the University of Illinois at Urbana- Champaign, Champaign, Ill, USA. He served as an Associate Professor at the Institute of Medical Biochemistry at the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro from 1990 to 1999, and then he was appointed Professor of biochemistry and neuroscience at that university. His current research focuses on elucidating mechanisms of pathogenesis in neurodegenerative diseases, particularly, the pathogenic roles of A-beta oligomers in Alzheimer's disease.
