Sherri L. LaVela
Sherri L. LaVela holds Ph.D., M.P.H., M.B.A. degrees. She serves as a Senior Research Scientist at the Center for Management of Complex Chronic Care, VA Center of Excellence. She works as a Research Assistant Professor at the Institute for Healthcare Studies, Feinberg School of Medicine, Northwestern University. In addition, she serves as the Director of the Postdoctoral Fellowship Program in VA Health Services Research. LaVela's research covers several fields, including gerontology, aging, disabilities, chronic disease, health promotion/disease prevention, health outcomes, epidemiology, healthcare quality and patient safety, and infection control. In addition, her research focused on preventive health and equitable health care for persons in special populations, such as individuals with physical disabilities (e.g., multiple sclerosis, spinal cord injuries, and disorders), women, and older adults. LaVela conducted multiple research studies to examine and improve respiratory vaccinations in high-risk populations and health care workers. She is also as a reviewer for several peer-reviewed journals, merit review grant panels, and a member of numerous organizations, including the American Public Health Association (APHA), American Academy of Health Behavior (AAHB), the Obesity Society, and the Academy Health Disability Research Group.
