Hongqun Liu is an Assistant Research Professor of medicine at the University of Calgary, Calgary, AB, Canada, and an ex-Assistant Editor and Editorial Manager of Liver International. He received his M.D. (1984) and M.S. (1989) degrees from Hebei Medical University, Shijiazhuang, Hebei, China, and Ph.D. degree from Tongji Medical University, Wuhan, China, in 1993. After residency training, he was appointed as a faculty member of Gastroenterology at the Second Hospital of Hebei Medical University. He was promoted as professor of medicine in 1996. In 1996-1997, he was sponsored by the Sino-British Friendship Scholarship and was a Visiting Scholar at the Royal Free Hospital School of Medicine, University of London, London, UK. In 1997, he started his research career at the University of Calgary. He has published 42 peer-reviewed papers, of which he is the first author of 24. Some of his papers were published in the top journals in the field of gastroenterology, including Gastroenterology, Gut, and Journal of Hepatology. His area of expertise is hepatology.
