Preben Bendtsen was born in Copenhagen, Denmark, in 1956. He studied to become a Physician in Denmark. He has worked as a Physician in Zimbabwe and Sweden before he decided to become a Full-Time Researcher. He received his Ph.D. degree from Linköping University in 1994 in social medicine and public health. Since 2008, he serves as a Professor and as the Chair the Department of Social Medicine and Public Health at Linköping University. His research has mainly been on life-style issues and health. The research has focused on how to accomplish behavioral change in individuals with an unhealthy life style. He has developed computerized brief interventions to be used in the health care system as a tool for the staff. Also, various implementation aspects have been studied in order to understand the variation in uptake of new evidence-based innovations concerning life style interventions. From 2008 to 2011, he was appointed as an Expert at the National Board of Health and Welfare in writing the Swedish guidelines for life-style interventions in the Swedish health care system.
