Willem de Graaf
Willem de Graaf received his masters degree in mathematics from the University of Groningen, Groningen, The Netherlands in 1992 and his Ph.D. degree from the TU Eindhoven, Eindhoven, The Netherlands in 1997. He continued his research and teaching activity at the University of St Andrews, St Andrews, UK (1997–2000), the University of Utrecht, Utrecht, The Netherlands (2000–2003), the University of Sydney, Sydney, NSW, Australia (2004), RICAM, Linz, Austria (2004–2005). Since 2005, he is Assistant Professor at the University of Trento, Trento, Italy. De Graaf's field of research is algorithms in algebra, and mainly algorithms in Lie Theory and Group Theory. He has developed algorithms for performing various constructions with Lie algebras, associative algebras, quantum groups, algebraic groups, and polycyclic groups. He has applied algorithmic techniques to obtain classifications of small dimensional Lie algebras of various types, and of the semisimple subalgebras of a semisimple Lie algebra. He implements his algorithms in the computer algebra systems GAP and Magma.
