Matilde Pensabene graduated in medicine and surgery at University "Federico II" in Naples, Italy, in 1998, and specialized in Medical Oncology in 2002. She obtained a Research Doctorate degree in molecular oncology and endocrinology in 2008. Since 1999 she has been involved in clinical and research activities at the Department of Clinical and Molecular Oncology and Endocrinology, Federico II University, Naples. Since 2000, she has worked as a Medical Oncologist and Oncologist Counselor at "Screening and Follow-up for Hereditary and Familial Cancers" Unit, University Hospital "Federico II", Naples, Italy. She is a Member of Associazione Italiana di Oncologia Medica (AIOM) and Associazione Italiana per lo Studio della Familiarita ed Ereditarieta dei Tumori Gastro-intestinali (AIFEG). She collaborated in the development of research projects supported by Ministry of University and Research under PRIN (Progetti di Rilevante Interesse Nazionale) projects (COFIN 1999, PRIN 2001, and 2003) within the Italian Network for "Study of Hereditary and Familial Breast/Ovarian Cancer". Her research activities have focused on the development of a model of oncogenetic counseling for Italian population and the evaluation of cancer spectrum related to hereditary and familial breast/ovarian cancers. Her research interests concern: (a) implementation of oncogenetic counseling modalities; (b) interaction of genetic and epigenetic factors in the development of hereditary and familial breast/ovarian and colon cancers; (c) evaluation of cancer spectrum, frequency, phenotype and genotype of tumors aggregated with hereditary and familial breast/ovarian cancers; (d) preventive strategies for management of hereditary and familial breast cancer. She has published articles in national and international journals and presented results in cancer genetics research within international conferences.
