Jong-Dug Shin received the Electronics Engineering degree from Yonsei University, the M.S. degree from the University of Texas at Austin, and the Ph.D. degree from Texas A&M University, in 1981, 1987, and 1991, respectively. From 1991 to 1995, he was a senior research engineer at ETRI in Korea. In 1995, he joined the School of Electronic Engineering, Soongsil University, Korea, where he is currently a Professor. He was a Visiting Professor at Alcatel USA and the University of Texas at Austin from August 2001 to July 2002 and August 2008 to July 2011, respectively. He served as a Program Manager for the Korea Research Foundation in 2006. He also serves as a Reviewer for the IEEE PTL, Journal of Lightwave Technology, Optical Engineering, Journal of Communications and Networks, and several conferences such as the IEEE GLOBECOM, ICC. Dr. Shin is a Cochair of the ONS symposium for the IEEE GLOBECOM 2011 and was an International Program Committee Member for the ARP 2009, a TPC Member for the IEEE ICC 2011, the IEEE GLOBECOM 2008 and 2010, the OECC2005, and the IEEE Sarnoff Symposium 2003 and 2004. He is currently a Steering Committee Member of the COOC and a TPC Cochair of the COOC 2011. His research has focused on optical switching systems, which includes optical packet switching, optical burst switching, and optical label switching. His research interests also include all-optical microwave signal processing, radio over fiber, optically controlled phased array antennas, and optical sensors. He is a Senior Member of the IEEE Photonics Society and the IEEE Communications Society, a Lifelong Member of Korean Institute of Communications and Sciences and the Institute of Electronic Engineers in Korea, and a Fellow of the Optical Society of Korea.
